What good IELTS study notes look like
The best IELTS study notes are short, practical and tied to the real test. Before you rely on any material, ask:
- Does it match the current format? Old notes may describe tasks or timings that have changed.
- Does it explain strategy, not just answers? Knowing why an answer is NOT GIVEN is worth more than the answer itself.
- Does it cover your track? Academic and General Training differ in Reading and Writing.
- Is it honest? Notes that promise a "secret trick" for band 8 are usually selling something.
- Is the English correct? Some locally circulated notes contain Indian-English phrases that would lose marks in the exam.
Good notes are something you use, not something you collect. A neat folder of downloaded PDFs on your phone will not raise your band.
Study Notes on IELTS Learning
Our Study Notes are strategy chapters for each module, written for the test as it is today:
- Listening: the four parts, form and map questions, spelling and numbers, distractors.
- Reading: each question type with a step-by-step method, plus timing plans for Academic and General Training.
- Writing: Task 1 for charts, tables, processes, maps and letters; every Task 2 essay type; the four criteria explained in plain English.
- Speaking: the three parts, extending answers, Part 3 discussion language and pronunciation.
Each chapter links naturally to practice, so you read a strategy and then try it on a real question. Alongside them, English Improvement covers grammar and vocabulary, spaced-repetition flashcards bring back words just before you forget them, and the Mistake Notebook turns your own wrong answers into personal revision notes.

Using Cambridge IELTS practice books alongside our tests
Many students in Kochi also use the official Cambridge IELTS practice books, which you can find in bookshops around Ernakulam and online. They are a valuable resource, and our tests follow the same official format, so the two work well together.
- Use Cambridge books for paper-style practice, especially if you are taking the paper test, and for extra authentic material.
- Use our mocks for computer-style practice: the timer, navigator, flag-for-review and drag-and-drop tools you will meet on screen.
- Use our feedback for Writing and Speaking, since the books give model answers but cannot assess your own.
- Save the latest books for later. Many students keep a couple of tests aside for the final fortnight.
Study material for Kochi students: making it fit your life
Kochi students often juggle a lot: lectures at CUSAT or a college in Kalamassery, hospital rotations, project deadlines at Infopark, family events, and the monsoon slowing every journey. Your study material needs to suit short gaps as well as longer sessions.
- Phone-friendly material for the metro, the ferry or waiting at the bus stand: flashcards, Daily Vocabulary, one Study Notes chapter.
- Laptop material for focused time at home: mocks, Writing tasks and full Listening parts.
- A small paper notebook for words you meet in Reading, your common spelling errors and useful Speaking phrases. Writing by hand helps many people remember.
Many students in and around Cochin study in Malayalam-English study groups. That is fine for motivation, but do the actual practice in English.
