Why mock tests matter more than extra practice sets
Practice sets build skills. A full mock test tells you whether those skills hold up for nearly three hours under time pressure. Students who only practise one section at a time are often surprised on exam day by how tired they feel by the end of Reading, or how quickly the 60 minutes for Writing disappears.
A full IELTS mock test shows you:
- your realistic band in each module, not your best-day band;
- where you run out of time, and on which question types;
- how your concentration changes from Listening to Writing;
- whether you are ready to book, or need another few weeks.
How our mocks work
Each of the 15 mock tests includes all four modules, set up for your track (Academic or General Training).
- Listening: four parts, 40 questions, with British-voiced recordings and answers that follow the question order. You get two minutes at the end to check, as in the computer-delivered test.
- Reading: three passages, 40 questions, 60 minutes, with drag-and-drop for headings and word-box summaries.
- Writing: Task 1 and Task 2 with a timer and word count. You get an AI-estimated band for each of the four criteria with feedback.
- Speaking: Parts 1, 2 and 3, including a cue card with a real one-minute preparation and two-minute speaking timer, followed by AI feedback on your transcript.
The screens include a question navigator, flag for review, highlighter and notes. Listening and Reading are marked instantly with a band score.
Taking a mock under exam conditions at home
A mock is only useful if you treat it like the real thing. In a busy Mangaluru household or a shared hostel room, that takes a little planning.
- Choose your slot. Early morning or a weekend afternoon usually works. If you are on hospital rotations, pick a day off rather than squeezing it in after a shift.
- Plan for power and internet. Monsoon storms in coastal Karnataka can cause power cuts. Charge your laptop fully and keep mobile data ready as a backup.
- Use wired or good headphones. Rain on a tin roof or traffic noise from the main road can drown out a Listening recording.
- Clear the desk. No phone, no dictionary, no notes. Tell family members you need three hours.
- Do all four sections in one sitting if you can. If not, do Listening, Reading and Writing together and Speaking the same day.
Using the results properly
The score is the start of the work, not the end of it.
- Listening and Reading: open every wrong answer. Was it a spelling slip, a misread question, or a real comprehension gap? Each one is saved to your Mistake Notebook automatically.
- Writing: read the feedback for each criterion. If Coherence and Cohesion is lower than the others, your ideas may be fine but your paragraphing needs work.
- Speaking: look at the transcript. Repeated fillers, very short Part 1 answers or a Part 2 talk that stops at 70 seconds all show up clearly.
Then plan your next week around the weakest module, using practice sets and, if you want a human view, a 1-to-1 teacher session from ₹299.
How many mocks should you take?
For most students, five to eight full mocks over the last six weeks is about right.
- One at the very start to find your baseline.
- One every two weeks in the middle of your preparation.
- One every weekend in the final month.
Taking a mock every day is rarely helpful. You need time between tests to fix what the last one showed you.
Mock tests for Mangaluru's exam-heavy calendar
Students here juggle university exams, internship duty and, for many, a tight deadline set by a hospital recruiter or university intake. A computer-based IELTS practice test at home lets you check your level in a free weekend instead of losing a day travelling. Test sessions are held in and around Mangalore; check dates and fees on the official IDP or British Council websites once your mock results are stable.
